Marie Claire's "Fashion 401K" Revolutionizes My Retirement Planning
Times are tough! The economy is shaky, and my retirement portfolio is leaking money. But thanks to Marie Claire’s in-depth reporting on investment plans, I no longer have to wade through a stack of dry prospectuses in a quest to find a safe haven for my hard-earned cash. Instead, I’ll just follow their suggestions and put my money into high-yield, high-end fashion! After all, according to “Fashion 401K” in the September issue, these pricey clothes “earn interest as you wear them.” Shopping for designer goods is just like opening a savings account, only far more stylish!

::snort:: oh goody, investments that are recession-proof.

If you want to find me, I'll be on Rodeo Drive creating a better portofolio.

I've been saving into a 401k for four years and I don't even have enough money to buy all the clothes on page. I'm not sure which depresses me more, this overpriced shit or the state of a single working girl's 401k! :P

What?? Why, oh why did I open up that money market account?? Dammit--all of my hard learned lessons about savings and my financial goals have just been invalidated!
And it's not as if women didn't have enough money issues....

Three things...
1. Every single item on that page costs more than I make in a week.
2. Give me $100 and a few hours at a thrift store or two, and I'll bet I can find stuff that's very similar to everything on that page and still have money left for lunch.
3. If you ask me, all that stuff ranges from hideous to boring, with the possible exception of that jacket, which is pretty, but not worth $598(!!!).

Laura and Jessica: Ha!
Jocelyn: Indeed--and it makes this page all the more ridiculous.
J.P.: Totally agree with your third point. I wouldn't want to wear that stuff for one season, let alone year after year.
