Glamour Takes On Gossip Girl's Prohibitive Purse Prices
The July edition of Glamour’s “Dos, Don’ts, News & Views” compares the accessories of TV characters. Deeming a Jimmy Choo bag acceptable for a thirty-something denizen of Lipstick Jungle, the mag goes on to declare a Constance Billard freshman’s $2,495 Valentino tote unrealistically expensive for someone so young.
Oddly, Glamour failed to indicate which age group is permitted to carry the $12,000 Louis Vuitton Speedy bag pictured in “Sunny Day Chic” on page 144 (below). $12K for a bag to take to the beach, and they think Gossip Girl is unbelievable?

I wonder if there will ever be a day I think it acceptable to spend $12,000 on a handbag!

If I ever spend $12,000 on an accessory I hope it is a handgun instead of a handbag. That way I can shoot myself in the head for being such an unbelievable idiot.

I see 15-year olds walking through the high-end malls in Dallas carrying Chanels that are far more expensive than that Valentino Jenny's got. Ridiculous? Yes. Unrealistic? I'd say not.

But Jenny's supposed to be the more normal, public school-like kid! The Valentino definitely doesn't fit with the plot line.

Jenny is trying to fit in with the spoiled rich girl clique so she has to carry that type of bag. It makes sense for the show, which Glamour should probably know, is not real. I don't care how old the Lipstick Jungle chick is. That Jimmy Choo bag is still way too expensive. There is no way to justify spending that much on a fashion accessory.
