Glossed Over Resumes May 21

Over the last two months, I haven’t read a single fashion magazine. Nonetheless, I’ve spent hours thinking and writing about them: why I started buying them, why I’ve spent so much time chasing the fantasy portrayed in the pages of Glamour and Vogue, why I became disillusioned, why I started this blog.

I have tons (like, a book’s worth) to say on all this. But for now, I just want to announce that I will resume regular posting on this site three weeks from today, on May 21. Until then, I’ll be tweaking the layout and adding some new features, so certain elements (say, the banner!) may go missing from time to time.

See you soon!

YAY!!! Sometimes a break is needed, especially from something that can be as toxic as fashion magazines.

Welcome back, Glossed Over! Hope your thinking and writing has been helpful and therapeutic to you. We all look forward to having you back as your writing and its style have been missed.

Will you be writing about your time off and your thoughts on the fashion magazine industry?

hooray! see you soon!

Just in time for the Lucky shoe caption contest! Hooray!

Thanks, everyone!

Jen--I will be posting here about some of things I thought about during my withdrawal from the newsstand, inasmuch as I can without turning this site into my Livejournal. I've written a lot of bitchy comments about magazines, but until now, I haven't really examined why, for years, I've spent so much time and money on something I supposedly hate. I have my answer now, and I'll post it here soon, and I'm looking forward to hearing other women's stories about why they buy.

Thank goodness! I need someone to explain to me WHY Jessica Simpson deserves to be on the cover of this month's Glamour. Because I just don't know.

I can't wait for you to come back! I've been forced to read Jezebel instead and, you know, it...it's just not...look, it SUCKS. Glossed Over all the way!

I'm sure a ton of your readers have a love/hate relationship with magazines, and I go through phases where every magazine seems the same. Can't wait to see what you write when you come back!

You have been missed!

I think we all have an insane facination with the glossies ... we love them and then hate them ... and then we buy them the following month.

Kudos for taking a hiatus if that is what you needed to come back full force!

xxoo.

awesome. fantastic news, anxiously awaiting your return!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear this! I really did miss your blog! I feel the same way as you do about those mags but I cant stop buying them :p

By then, will you have learned grammar, style, punctuation, rhythm, sentence structure, and vocabulary? If not, I recommend you read *Strunk & White*, and as much quality literature as you can. You'll get there.

I try to avoid errors, but I can't be certain there are no mistakes anywhere on this site, and I'd certainly want to rectify any grammatical issues. Are there specific mechanical problems you're referring to? Since you work at a magazine, you may have some expertise in this area.

WTF Anon? Have you SEEN other blogs? They're atrocious. This one has hardly any grammar or punctuation mistakes. Let's see YOUR blog!
