Editor's Note: Going Dark...For Now, At Least

I’ve been hesitant to say this.

After more than two and half years of posting here, I’m opting to go dark for a couple of months. The constant immersion has made me weary of the subject matter, and I fear that my waning enthusiasm is showing in my writing (and is clearly apparent in my lack thereof). So, I’m going to use this time off to read books, write about something other than magazines, and get some fresh air—not to mention a fresh perspective.

The blog and all archives will remain up. If you’d like to be automatically notified when there is new content here, you can sign up to receive posts by email under “Subscribe” in the far right-hand column. (I promise I won’t sell your email address or sign you up for Cosmo’s weekly newsletters.)

And while you’re still here reading, I want to say the most important thing of all:

Thank you.

Aw, I can totally understand your burnout. From a feminist perspective, the fashion, beauty, and ad industries can be really angering and stultifying. Yet some of us still love to shop, get dressed up, or do our hair and makeup. I hope you have a nice break and I'll be looking out for future posts or announcements. :-)

no! i just came across glossed over just recently & have really been enjoying it.

i look forward to your return, though!

Darn - I have a knack for discovering good blogs right when they end. But of course I understand. Enjoy your rest.

You will be missed! I'm keeping you on my Bloglines anyway!

Gonna miss you, G.O. Put on some big ol' sweatpants, get a Diet Coke, put your feet up and read a good book (I recommend some Dorothy Parker or Nancy Mitford). We'll see you soon!

You are awesome. I hope you can come back soon to entertain, inform, and snark.

From a selfish point of view: No! Why, why, why?
From a more normal point of view: I hope you have a good time off and come back (as soon as you feel better) with new inspiration. Take care, I will miss you and your comments on everything I love/hate/love/hate.

Come back soon. Love this blog. :)

Boo. I miss you already. But have fun having a real, non-internet-focused life!

going to miss the blog, but good for you. you are too good to waste all that vitriolic talent on the fashion industry. best of luck.

Noooooooooo! I LOVE this blog! And really, isn't it all about me? It's not like you're a newlywed who'd like to spend more time with her...oh, wait.

I hope you'll consider occasional blogging. Sometimes I read egregious things in magazines and can't wait to see them mentioned on here. For example--PLEASE come back to lead us in a group discussion of the Lucky shoe caption contest. Seriously, how can you miss that?

I love love love this blog so much. You have such a way with words that it is such a pleasure to read and ridicule along with you. I hope you do take this time to refresh and come back!!!!

Awesome. a well-deserved break and probably a very fruitful idea. I'm sure it will be just the jumpstart you need. We all love your blog and we'll anxiously await its return.

Aw, I'll miss this blog. I hope you come back soon. Otherwise, let us know if you're writing anything else!

Sorry to see you go! I've enjoyed Glossed Over for a long time:)

Oh no! Enjoy your well-deserved rest and relaxation! We'll miss you!

I've so enjoyed reading your blog, but totally understand the burnout factor- constantly immersing yourself in the fact that there is a huge and bloated industry devoted to making us gals feel like shit has gotta mess with one's head. I look forward to your return or to your next project.
