Glossed Over Goes Live: We Live Blog Vogue Monday Night

Yesterday, we picked up a copy of the new Vogue at the newsstand.  Though the issue has now been in ourVogue_september_sienna_miller_5 possession for more than 24 hours, we have yet to crack the thing open.  The anticipation is killing us.  Sienna Miller’s new eyebrows are explained inside, right?

Still, we’ve decided to wait…until Monday night at 8:00 p.m. Pacific, that is, when we will live blog as we read the massive September issue.  We’ve never read any September edition in just one sitting, and we have no idea how long it’ll take.  (Actually, we’re rather afraid this experiment of ours may run all night.  Yikes.  We get even crankier than normal when we’re sleep-deprived.)  But we’re gluttons for punishment…and for Vogue!  Check in with us Monday evening as we discover the “magician of makeup,” “fearless fashion,” and the exact amount of caffeine we’re capable of consuming in the course of an evening.

I have yet to understand the fashion mags' fawning admiration of Sienna Miller. She's a pretty girl, but what has she done worth noting other than breaking off her engagement with Jude Law? Her movies consistently tank, her acting skills are questionable, and she tends to look completely insane in her "fashion" concoctions. I'm mystified by her celebrity.

Yeah, I don't know, T-Bone. She was ok in the remake of "Alfie" and even though "Factory Girl" was dull as fuck, she was pretty rad as Edie Sedgewick. I've wanted to see "Interview" to see if she breaks out of American party girl typecast.

I only really like her from live interviews on TV. She's a total sassy Brit and she swears and she has an unselfconscious sense of humor that is so lacking in most young actresses.

When I view Sienna on the cover of this month's Vogue, I certainly don't think of a starlet or trendsetting fashionista. It's impossible for me to avoid thinking of her photos in the gossip columns and blogs in which she's leaving some club at dawn, incredibly messy and drunk, wearing some hideous outfit with leggings. We were also besieged with her for that debacle of a movie, "Factory Girl". Edie Sedgwick she ain't.

I have to laugh when I get these mags in the mail, featuring front covers with the trashiest girls in thousands and thousands of dollars worth of clothes and accessories. It's odd times we live in that Vanessa, Nicole, Paris, Britney, Lindsay and Sienna are featured on covers (although the last two listed are possibly the least offensive among them because they've actually attempted some sort of career as of late). It's hard to get past them showing their private parts, sporting eating disorders, enthusiastically abusing drugs and alochol (all those unfortunate DUIs), being fairly "out there" with their sexual partners (e.g. the sex tapes), welcoming and often inviting photographers everywhere while doing a variety of things most people would consider private and personal, and promoting cheap, tacky products they themselves wouldn't use (e.g. Paris and Vanessa). I don't think any of them reflect beauty and glamour, rather lots of trash and tinsel.

I appreciate the fact that Sienna routinely opens her mouth to insert her foot. I also sort of like how she's trashy and tactless, but somehow gets away with it. Must be the brit thing, but it totally works on her.

The real question is - why haven't we been able to discuss Gwyneth's unfortunate W spread? This Sienna brow crap is barely a blip on the radar when compared to what W did to Gwynnie.

Sorry, tangent but- who's "Vanessa"?

Ok, I think I am becoming a Glossed groupie because this really makes me excited. I guess I am just one of the legions of people addicted to shiny fashion mags. That being said, I do not envy you. I just got this copy and it is larger than a many text books I have purchased.

Also, I think Ms. Miller's eyebrows look better when viewing the actual issue. But then, I've always thought thicker brows looked nice.

ugh, Sienna is not fashion inspiring at all, I am boycotting purchasing this issue (due to Sienna) so I am looking forward to your live blogging.

Emily,

Vanessa Minnillo is some sort of spokesperson/pseudo celeb. I believe she was on the cover of Lucky at some point.(?) I could be wrong about this though. She's really done nothing much at all in the way of exhibiting any talent. She launched her makeup line at some point in the last few weeks.

Here's her Wikipedia entry:

Forgot to add: I have to agree about the W/Gwenyth cover. She looks like a bleached, bronzed porn star, eh? What's up with that? The photos didn't even resemble her. Honestly, I'm not sure I would have even recognized her, had I not read about her cover in advance.
