Know When to Fold ‘Em: Jane to Close

There’s no official announcement yet, but looks like we’ve seen the last of Jane.  Condé Nast is folding the magazine, which has reportedly struggled at the newsstand and with advertisers in recent months.  Fashion Week Daily says that editor-in-chief Brandon Holley and vice president/publisher Carlos LaMadrid will both leave the company.

We’re unexpectedly saddened by this news.  We may have mocked Jane relentlessly, but we’ll miss it nonetheless.

Edit: Radar Online has more, including the official press release announcing the closure.  And Mediabistro has a bit more about the affected staffers.

I kinda like Jane - maybe not enough to buy it, but I thought it was worth the occasionally read. Oh well RIP Jane :0(

Aw, now there'll be no "Jane petty criticism corner" in Bitch :o(

When Jane first released, I was entering my freshman year of college and I was a FAN. I bought the first issue and subscribed for several years after that. That being said, after a while they watered down that Sassy attitude they kept touting and replaced much of it with poorly disguised Marie Claire fare. I picked up a copy a few months ago and found it hardly readable.

another magazine = dead. what will the future hold for cosmopolitan? i would have expected that one to fold first.

Glossed, you really are an atrocious writer. You might consider reading Strunk & White a few times. It would help your little potshot-taking case.

Nah, I like glossed's Snark & White way betta.

Thank you, Emily.

Anon: What are you referring to, exactly? We see neither errors nor potshots in this particular post.

I don't know what Anon is talking about either, Glossed is fabulous reading.

Thank you, Stunt Girl.

Um, can I just say how funny it is that this post is next to a Google ad for "Jane Magazine--Up to 90% Off Subscriptions Here!"

Yeah, because you'll only get 10% of your subscription delivered before they shut down, it sounds like.

Good riddance to Jane. One of those mags that always seemed like a good idea when I bought it, then was like a really annoying gal pal I wished I hadn't agreed to hang out with.

I guess I'm alone in that I love Jane and I will really miss it if it is to go - it's one of my favorite magazines.

Caroline, please:

"The Style Editor provides fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips for the busy babe. Women love to be fashionable and enjoy the latest looks and products, but who has the time to stay up on changing trends?"

A thumbs down from you is a ringing endorsement.

Oh, Amber . . .

If you had spent as much time as a technical editor and writer as I have, you would want to do something fun like a beauty blog, too.

By the way, don't you have to go write to your boyfriend Scott? I hear he's lonely in prison:

Enjoy your last issue of Jane!
