We're Going to Skip Fruitcake This Year, Too

Marie Claire’s attempts to cover the lives of women worldwide often fall flat.  But this month’s “You and Your World” feature, “What Do You Secretly Lust For?,” goes beyond informative--it’s downright, perhaps unintentionally, sobering.

Juxtaposed in the article are these two factoids:

Average annual salary in Rwanda: $220

The average American woman spent $544 on holiday gifts last year. 

Hello, social conscience.  And now we’re supposed to flip to the magazine’s gift guide?
